Big Y Foods (USA) Teams with Pharmacy School on Wellness Centre

SPRINGFIELD, USA – Big Y Foods Inc. and the Western New England College School of Pharmacy have partnered to open a patient-centered Consultation and Wellness Center run by faculty pharmacists.

The New England food and drug retailer said Tuesday that the new facility, located at the Big Y World Class Market in Springfield, Mass., is one of the largest pharmacy consultation and wellness centers in the region and the first to be located in a supermarket.

Patients will be able to make an appointment with a pharmacist who will work with them and their physician to optimize their care, according to Big Y, which has 56 stores — 33 with pharmacies — in Massachusetts and Connecticut.The Consultation and Wellness Center contains a patient drug information area, an examination room, and an office for consultations and family education, along with a large waiting area.Free services offered at the center include education and training programs, blood glucose evaluations, individualized patient care plans and pharmacist medication reviews.

"Big Y is proud to partner with the Western New England College School of Pharmacy as part of our wellness initiative. Programs like this will help to improve the quality of life and health of Big Y customers," Big Y president and chief operating officer Charles D'Amour said in a statement.
